For those of you who don’t know or haven’t figured it out by now I am a foodie! I am so much of a foodie that I hold a degree in Baking & Pastry Arts as well as Food Service Management. And I love food. I love good food, especially. And when good food is paired with good wine, friends all in a beautiful location such as The Hershey Hotel I am THERE!
When I visited Hershey in March for the Sweet Welcome event hosted by Hershey Entertainment and Resorts one of the events that I was the MOST excited about was The Hotel Hershey Wine & Food Festival event. The chef was telling us all about the vintners, the selections of food they would be preparing and the different events they would be hosting but I was already on my phone checking to see if I was available that particular weekend. And I WAS!
This September 11-13 The Hotel Hershey is having their sixth annual Wine & Food Festival.
I was thinking this would be a perfect event for Bob and I to visit for our fall getaway. Each spring and fall we do our best to take a long weekend and get away just the two of us. It is something we started a few years ago as a once a year type of thing but we quickly realized we needed a getaway more than once a year. We both are so busy and we want to take the time and make the investment in ourselves and our marriage. For us we need to get out of the house, go sleep in a hotel, eat food prepared by someone else and drink lots of wine. It was not enough for us to have the kids sleep at the grandparents house for a few nights. If we did that we just caught up on chores around the house.
What fun is that!?
Then the more I thought about it, the more I thought the Wine and Food Festival would be more fun with friends. If 2 people can enjoy the wine and food together, how much MORE fun would we have if we went with another couple? Or even a few couples?
One of my blogger friends Fadra of All Things Fadra, and her husband are fairly local to the Hershey area. They love food, wine and obviously, Hershey so Fadra and I asked Hershey Entertainment if they wanted us to help provide social media coverage of the event. They said yes and so we are making a weekend out of it!
Here is a list of the events The Hotel Hershey Wine & Food Festival is offering. How can you choose just one?!
Friday, September 11 – Wine, Dine and Punch Lines
Kick off the weekend with a reception hosted by Italo Jofre from Concha y Toro featuring wine selections and a Chilean themed dinner menu. Then, enjoy a selection of desserts and the lighter side of wine with “Something To Wine About,” a comedy show featuring Laurie Forster, The Stand Up Sommelier.
Saturday, September 12 – Vine to Wine at Waltz Vineyards Estate Winery
This unique experience begins with a personal tour of Waltz Vineyards Estate Winery in nearby LancasterCounty. The tour is followed by a walk-through of the winemaking process with owners Jan and Kimberly Waltz. The event culminates with a tasting of wines accompanied by local cheeses, crackers and chocolates. Transportation to and from The Hotel Hershey and boxed lunch are included. Outdoor dress and comfortable shoes are suggested.
Saturday, September 12 – Trinchero Bordeaux Blending Class
The Trinchero Bordeaux Blending Class shows guests the process and art of blending Bordeaux red wine. Guests are invited to blend their own Bordeaux-style wine with four of the classic varietal components of Bordeaux: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
Saturday, September 12 – Pio Cesare Wine Dinner
Hosted by Italian winemaker Cesare Benvenuto from Pio Cesare Wines, the evening begins with a reception followed by a five-course dinner paired with four to five wines. Benvenuto will speak, and guests will have the opportunity to mingle with fellow wine enthusiasts.
Sunday, September 13 – VIP Winemaker Breakfast
This breakfast buffet and mimosa bar is hosted by several Wine Festival winemakers. Registration and wristband pick-up will be available during breakfast for guests who will enjoy the Grand Tasting in the afternoon.
Sunday, September 13 – Grand Tasting
The Grand Tasting features more than 50 international and domestic wineries, a selection of local breweries, food samplings from Hershey Entertainment & Resorts’ award-winning chefs and restaurants and live jazz entertainment. Guests are invited to stroll and enjoy the grounds of the Hotel’s FormalGardens and HarvestPlaza.
Make it an overnight!
If you are going to be enjoying all the wine offerings of the event the responsible thing to do would be to spend the night in one of the beautiful Hershey Properties. Right!? I had a chance to stay at both The Hershey Hotel and The Hershey Lodge this year and the level of hospitality, luxury and attentions to detail is exquisite. I have room tour videos of both of them.
Which would you like to stay in after a day of Sipping and Savoring?
Fadra and I will be instagramming, tweeting and Periscoping our way through this delicious weekend and we invite you to join us! Purchase your tickets before they are sold out! If you can’t make it to this years event I encourage you to put it on the calendar for next year and bring your spouse, girlfriends, foodie friends, wine friends, chocolate loving friends, friends who want to have a good time and make a weekend of it. If you want to see what it is like to attend the event be sure to follow #TheHersheyHotelFWW on social media or follow Fadra or myself as we give you the play by play of the events as we enjoy them.
