Building A Better Back To School Lunch With A Free Printable
Kids are going back to school and for me that means packing 3 lunches this year instead of 2! Occasionally I will get a reprieve when the kids buy the hot lunch at school but with 3 kids in school this year I am pretty much guaranteed to be packing at least 1 lunch, if not 3 every day.
Can I tell you a secret?
I am REALY good at putting together back to school lunches…. for about a week. Two, if I am lucky. After that I just start throwing things in a lunch box and hope I have hit some sort of nutritional value.
BUT NOT THIS YEAR!
I am going to be organized and I am going to make the kids help out with what they want to eat for lunch.
I have made a super simple printable and you are welcome to have a copy of it for yourself. Do yourself a favor and print out about 20 copies, binge watch some Netflix and cut apart the forms. It will save you so much time on busy mornings.
I made it so your child can fill in their name and select what they want for lunch. Names are important because heaven help me if I send a soy nut butter sandwich with the kid who wanted turkey roll ups!
Have your child check one item in each box and you are all set to Build A Better Lunch! All you have to do is add a sweet treat and a napkin and you are all set to go. If you are feeling extra fancy, you can flip the lunch order sheet over and write a cute note or pop on a few colorful stickers.
In addition to this fun printable I will be taking some help from GIANT Food Stores when it comes to packing a better lunch.
Nature’s Promise and Free From
I have been adding more and more of the Nature’s Promise and the Free from items into my cart. If you want to learn more about these products you can read this post that I wrote: Nature’s Promise Organic And Free From Giant Food Stores. We LOVE LOVE LOVE organic items in my family but what we don’t love are the prices that come with some of them. The Nature’s Promise line has been amazing for my budget. All the products carry the USDA Organic seal so you know the item is truly organic. If I am not grabbing the Nature’s Promise item I will seek out the Free From items.
“Free from” products do not contain:
- Artificial colors, flavors OR preservatives
- Other unnecessary ingredients
Not necessarily organic, but free from the things I would rather not be feeding my children.
Toss and Go
I will tell you that about 75% of the time I am buying the big bags of pretzels, popping open a jar of home made apple sauce, or buying cranberries in the bulk bin at Giant. But there are those mornings, usually a Monday, that NOTHING is prepared. It is these mornings I am thankful that Giant has individual, ready to serve items that are lunch box ready.
Do yourself a favor and grab a small stock of these items. You will be thankful to have them on the shelf when you are having a crazy morning!
Check out this post I wrote on Healthy Back To School Lunch Ideas. We will still be using these ideas this year!
