2 Ingredient Home Made Vanilla with Free Printable
If you are looking for a quick gift or a way to save money on your vanilla I have a recipe and technique for you! Vanilla can be quite pricey and it IS delicious but I have been making my own vanilla for years. When I say YEARS I should say decades. I had a roommate at Johnson & Wales University that made her own vanilla and I was blown away that it could be accomplished with just 2 ingredients…and time. You need to plan ahead if you are going to be giving it as a gift and want the recipient to use it right away. Three months in fact.
Seriously…this is the easiest recipe to make for the foodie in your life. That foodie can be YOU!
Here are your two ingredients:
Start with clean bottles.
I like the ones with the attached swing tops. I have used the ones with the corks before but I am so clumsy in the kitchen that I knock them over an the cork pops out, spilling out the precious vanilla.
Spring for the swing top bottles.
Add 1 vanilla bean to each bottle.
It is up to you if you want to split the bean in half, lengthwise. I have done both split and non-split and I don’t notice a big difference in the flavor. If you do split the bean you will get those precious vanilla seeds seep into your vanilla.
It is delicious.
Ready for the hard part?
Fill the bottles with vodka.
If you don’t have a steady hand so I have to use a mini funnel.
Fill out the age with a date 3 months after the day you start the vanilla.
Punch a hole or two and attach the tag to the bottle.
Over the next 3 months the vodka will become infused with the delicious vanilla bean!
