Perfect for Day of the Dead celebrations, Cocoa inspired birthday parties or Halloween Trick Or Treating. Enjoy this free Pixar Coco Cocoa Mexican Hot Chocolate Mix Printable and Recipe.
With Pixar Coco coming to the big screen November 22 and eventually DVD, the obvious DIY craft would be Coco Cocoa Mexican hot chocolate mix! Rich, creamy hot chocolate with a touch of cinnamon and cayenne pepper. I knew it would make a super cute gift to give after a party or for Trick-or-Treating.
Although, Day of the Dead has nothing to do with Halloween. Day of the Dead is the multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. It is celebratory, reminiscent and festive.
Mexican Hot Chocolate Mix Ingredients:
- 3 cups dry milk powder
- 1 ¾ cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 ½ cups cocoa powder (I used Hershey’s Dark)
- 1 ½ cup mini chocolate chips
- ¼ tsp. salt
- 2 tbsp corn starch
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional but encouraged)
In a large food processor, pulse all the ingredients together to form the Mexican hot chocolate mix.
If you don’t have a food processor, whisking the ingredients together would work. It would just take time and a bit of muscle. Also the chocolate ships wouldn’t be crushed but they are mini so that is not a big deal. They will melt in the warm milk when you make the hot chocolate.
Use a funnel to fill cellophane bags with 1 cup of the cocoa mix.
You could use just a measuring cup but I need something to aim for when I am filling. I usually make a mess and the funnel helps keep the mess at bay.
One option is to tie the bag with a piece of twine, string or ribbon.
The other is to neatly fold over the top of the bag making a flat edge. Secure with a piece of clear tape.
Either one is fine. It is your creative option.

Make sure you set your printer to print double sided. The instructions are on the back of the tag!
Print them on card stock to give the tags extra structure.
I thought they would be cute if you had cute scalloped scissors to cut them out. But I didn’t have the scalloped scissors. Just a suggestion.
