It is spring time and thoughts usually shift toward spring cleaning and sprucing up around the house. But ladies, when was the last time you did a little self sprucing up. I am not talking about a complete head to toe makeover, but more of simple things you can do right now to practice self care and have a fresh outlook on spring.
Here are 7 ways women can spruce up her home and herself for spring.
Each item takes less than 5 minutes to complete and if you are quick, I am sure you can get the entire list completed in less than 20 minutes. Ready to spruce up?
I am looking at you, I know you but I am not judging you because I am one of you. What in the world am I talking about?
When was the last time you went through your bras and truly had a heart to heart with them?
What is a heart to heart?
When you take an honest look at your collection and decide what bra has served it purpose, is falling apart, have a wire poking our or is just no longer doing its job.
The bra with the holes in the lace on the sides. (see above) The bra with the shoulder straps that are WAY stretched out. The bra that is a nursing bra but you haven’t nursed a child in 5 years. (raises had) It is time to say goodbye.
Here is another confession. I had to take this bra off my body to photograph it for this blog post. Why? Because it is so awesome!
It is feather light. So light that it doesn’t feel like you are wearing anything, much like a second skin. There is no underwire! (Praise!) Instead of an underwire this bra features soft foam cups that give shape and support. I don’t hesitate to wear it under any of my fitted t shirts because there are no obvious ‘bra lines’. You know the ones I am talking about.

We all know that we need to be drinking lots of water to keep our bodies hydrated and healthy. I have found that if I like the taste of the water I will drink more of it!
When was the last time you changed the filter on your refrigerator or water pitcher? It takes less than 5 minutes, 2 minutes if you are super fast at it and you will have fresh, clean, tasty water to enjoy.
Watch the above video on how I change the water filter in my refrigerator.
When was the last time you cleaned out your hairbrush? With three girls in our household there is a LOT of hair brushing going on. Hairbrushes need to be cleaned out but they don’t always get cleaned as regularly as they should.
Use a rat tail comb to lift the hair out of the brush and soak the brush in a sink of warm water and shampoo. This will help clean the brush and make it almost good as new.
Also, if you have a brush with a broken handle (see above) I give you permission to throw it out and purchase a new one. Sometimes we use items beyond when they should have been thrown away. (See my bra example again)
Plastic Storage Containers
Depending on your storage container situation, this one might take more than the 5 minutes. But it will be worth it!
Empty all your plastic storage containers out of your drawers and cabinets.
Match all the lids.
If it doesn’t have a lid or a base it needs to be recycled. It might be hard to let go but they have GOT to go. A lid is not serving its purpose without the base and the base is not serving its purpose without the lid.
Replace your collection with containers that nest. Nesting containers, preferably with interchanging lids will take up less space in your cabinets.
Bonus tip: Select all the same shape container. Don’t get a set with squares, rectangles and cups. ALSO have each household have its own shape container. This way you know you have the square containers, you sister has the rectangle containers and your mom has the circular containers. Getting containers back to the correct household is now easy!
I know I am one that will use my shower puff until it falls apart in my hands and then try and tie it back up.
Time to spruce up for spring and toss your old puff and treat yourself to a new one. It is an easy switch out that takes less than 5 minutes.
Your skin will thank you!
I clean my washing machine about once a month. This cleans out any soap residue, mold that might be starting from lack of air circulation and give the machine a good sanitation.
This is one of those items that takes less than 5 minutes to get started and has big pay offs in the end!

Candles are wonderful for fragrance and mood setting but when was the last time you cleaned out, or even threw out your candles?
A quick wipe down can do wonders to the look of the glass globes. Or if you need to removed the extra wax from the container place them in the freezer for a few hours. Once frozen the wax should pop out more easily.
Another option would be to pour boiling water into the room temperature glass containers. The wax will melt off the sides and float to the top forming a skin. Once cooled the skin can easily be removed.
