3 ingredients for Chaffle recipe

Basic Chaffle Ingredients:

  • Egg – large
  • Cheese – shredded

3 ingredient Chaffle recipe:

  • Egg – large
  • Cheese – shredded
  • Almond flour – I love a tablespoon of almond flour to add flavor and it gives that chaffle a more of a waffle texture. But this ingredient is optional.

How to make a chaffle:

  1. Preheat a mini waffle maker.
  2. While the waffle maker is coming to temperature, in a bowl whisk together the egg and the almond flour.
  3. Then fold in the shredded cheese, fully incorporating it into the egg mixture.
  4. Spoon enough chaffle batter over the bottom plate of the waffle maker to just fill the bottom of the waffle grate. About 1/4 cup.
  5. Close the waffle maker and allow to cook 2-3 minutes. You will know the chaffle is fully cooked when the steam subsides and the waffle maker is easily opened.
  6. Carefully remove the chaffle from the waffle maker and enjoy!

Chaffle Tips:

  • 1 recipe = 1 chaffle/waffle
  • Use this basic recipe as inspiration for other chaffle recipes
  • Don’t overfill the base of the mini waffle maker before closing the lid.
  • Switch up the cheese to change the cheesy chaffle flavor profile.
  • 2 egg whites can be substituted for a whole egg if you are looking for a lower fat chaffle.

What kind of waffle maker can be used to make Chaffles?

The Dash mini waffle maker is the favorite for making single-serve chaffles. But a traditional Belgium waffle maker can be used if you are making a fuller meal. Pro tip: watch for Target and other retailers to have the Dash mini waffle maker on super sale during the holiday. ps. I got mine for $10.

Mini Waffle Maker Cleaning Tips:

  • Unplug Mini Waffle Maker and allow it to cool completely.
  • Using a damp, soapy cloth, wipe down the Cooking Surface and Cover.
  • Thoroughly rinse the cloth and wipe again, thoroughly dry Mini Waffle Maker before storing.
  • If there is food burned onto the cooking surface, pour on a little cooking oil and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes to loosen the burnt food.
  • Scrub the Cooking Surface with a sponge or soft-bristled brush to dislodge food. Use a damp, soapy cloth to wipe down the Cooking Surface.
  • Thoroughly rinse the cloth and wipe again. If any food remains, pour on cooking oil and let sit for a few hours, then scrub and wipe clean.
  • Never use abrasive cleaning agents to clean your appliance as this may damage the Mini Waffle Maker and its nonstick Cooking Surface.

Mini Waffle Maker Troubleshooting:

The light on the Mini Waffle Maker keeps shutting off.

This is normal. During the cooking process, the heating element will automatically turn on and off to regulate the temperature and ensure that the Cooking Surface does not get too hot or cold. When this occurs, the Indicator Light turns on and off.

How do I know when the Mini Waffle Maker is heated and ready to use?

When the Waffle Maker reaches the optimal temperature, the Indicator Light shuts off and that means you’re ready to get cooking!

There is no On/Off Button. How do I turn the Mini Waffle Maker off and on?

To turn on, simply plug in the power cord. When you’re done cooking, turn off the Mini Waffle Maker by unplugging it.

When using my Mini Waffle Maker, the Cover gets very hot. Is this normal?

Yes, this is completely normal. When using your Waffle Maker, always lift and lower the Cover by the Cover Handle. To prevent personal injury, DO NOT lift the Cover so that your arm is over the Cooking Surface as it is hot and may cause injury. Lift from the side.

After using my Mini Waffle Maker a few times, food is starting to stick to the surface. What is happening?

There is probably a build-up of burnt food residue on the Cooking Surface. This is normal, especially when cooking with sugar. Allow the appliance to cool fully, pour on a little cooking oil and let sit for 5–10 minutes. Scrub Surface with a sponge or soft bristled brush to dislodge food. Use a damp, soapy cloth to wipe down the Cooking Surface. Rinse the cloth and wipe again. If food remains, pour on cooking oil and let sit for a few hours, then scrub and wipe clean.

The Indicator Light will not turn on and the Cooking Surface is failing to heat.

  • Ensure that the power cord is plugged into the power outlet.
  • Check to make sure the power outlet is operating correctly.
  • Determine if a power failure has occurred in your home, apartment or building.
What is a chaffle?

A chaffle is a delicious 3 ingredient, keto friendly waffle. A traditional Chaffle recipe is a delicious alternative to bread for those following a low-carb, keto lifestyle. There are many ways to make different variations of the chaffle recipe for every taste.

Do Chaffles taste like cheesy eggs?

Some people will taste nothing but cheesy eggs when they bit into a chaffle but if you let them cook, and be sure there is a crisp crust on it, the cheese will caramelize giving it a more delicious flavor profile.

How to store chaffles for reheating?

When storing chaffles for future reheating first, be sure they are cooled completely. If they are still warm, they will continue to steam in a closed container, taking away the delicious crispy edges. I use a cookie cooking rack to be sure they cool on the underside without loosing the crisp edge.

Once completely cool, stack them and store in a zip top bag for up to 5 days in the refrigerator. For maximum freezing success, place the cooled chaffles on a cooling rack and freeze over night. Store the frozen chaffles in a zip top bag, removing as much air possible, sealing the bag. Or store in a freezer safe air tight container.

Reheating Chaffles

My favorite way to reheat a chaffle in in the toaster. I don’t own a toaster oven but I am sure that would work as well. Alternatively you can warm chaffles on a non stick pan or even pop them back in the mini waffle maker to make them warm and toasty again.
