    • One Plate - Minimal cleanup! All the ingredients are spread in an even layer in the bottom of a pie dish and baked until heated through.
    • Easy appetizer recipe - for those who are new to cooking this homemade chili cheese dip is super simple and is a great recipe to make that a lot of people will love.

🥫 Easy Chili Cheese Dip Ingredients:

chili cheese dip ingredients, hormel chili, cream cheese, cheddar cheese with text overlay.
    • 8 ounces cream cheese
    • 1 (15 oz.) can of Hormel chili
    • 2 cups cheddar cheese

Here is a visual overview of the ingredients in the recipe. Scroll down to the recipe at the bottom for quantities.

    🔄 Variations and substitutions:

I am using the Hormel chili no beans but there is also chili with beans that would be a delicious option. Feel free to swap out the canned chili for vegetarian chili and plant-based chili. I also wouldn't be mad if you use your own homemade chili recipe.

The original recipe calls for cheddar cheese but switch up the cheese by substituting in colby jack, pepper jack cheese, Mexican blend cheeses, shredded sharp cheddar cheese or even shredded mozzarella cheese. The choice is yours!

Offer garnishes and toppings. Let everyone jazz up their serving with chopped green onions, a splash of hot sauce, a dollop of sour cream, or a scoop of pico de gallo. There is so much flavor potential with this cheesy dip.

    ❄️ Storage tips

Store leftover chili cheese dip in an airtight container. Alternatively, you can just cover the cooled baking dish with plastic wrap and keep in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

    ♨️ Reheating Instructions

Heat leftovers in the microwave in 30 second increments until heated through.

    👩‍🍳 Recipe Tips

    • Make sure to use a sturdy chip or cracker for dipping because the dip is thick and heavy.
    • To make this recipe spicier, try using a spicy variety of chili or adding a dash of cayenne pepper.
    • You can also customize this recipe by adding your favorite toppings such as diced tomatoes, jalapeños, or sliced black olives.

📝 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS, ANSWERS AND TIPS:

Is queso and cheese dip the same thing??

Yes, queso and cheese dip are essentially the same thing. Queso is a Spanish word for “cheese,” while cheese dip is an American term for melted or processed cheese used as a dip.

Typically, queso refers to a more authentic Mexican-style cheese sauce made with real cheese, while cheese dip may contain additional ingredients like cream, seasonings or peppers. But in general, both terms refer to a creamy and melty cheesy sauce used as a dipping condiment for chips or other foods.
