Household Check List Before You Leave For Vacation
Leaving for vacation can be stressful. We work hard before we leave and we work hard to catch up after we return.
Having a household check list to help remind yourself of the things to be done before you leave can ease your mind and put you in vacation mode faster. These are items I cross off my list so I can return to a welcoming home while resting and relaxing on vacation.
Stop the mail. (fill out this from to have your mail held by the USPS)
Stop the newspaper.
Let a trusted neighbor know you are leaving.
Set up pet care.
Schedule a grocery deliver for the day you arrive home. (Here is $15 off your first order with Peapod)
Set thermostat to ‘away’ mode.
We love our Ecobee3 thermostat!
Take out the trash.
Empty the dishwasher.
Put fresh sheets on the bed. (there is nothing as refreshing as slipping into fresh sheets on your first night home in your OWN bed.) Read how we sleep on a Disney Cruise Line Mattress each night at home.
Put our fresh towels in the bathrooms.
Run the garbage disposal.
Remove all fresh foods from the refrigerator that will spoil while you are away.
Open the washer to air out. Don’t forget to clean your washing machine once a month
Run the vacuum.
Lock all the windows.
Disable the garage door.
Put a piece of steel in the slider door. We have a long piece of metal in the track of our slider to help keep the door closed if the lock was picked
Put any valuables out of sight. Keep temptation away if someone looks in your windows.
Instal outdoor automatic light sensors in your lamps.
Put a few lamps on timers in your rooms.
Do you like to check or cross things off a list? I made this post into a printable for you.
