How We Pack A Healthy Lunch For Back To School
Can you believe it! It seems like we were JUST talking about planning summer vacations, crafts and just plain, old relaxing. And then….Boom Pow! It is time to start thinking about sending the kids back to school.
Part of my back to school routine is to ask the kids what they want to eat for lunches.
We pack our lunches because it saves us money and I know what goes into their lunches. So about this time each year I have the kids make me a list of items they will eat in their lunches. This way when I am doing my weekly grocery shopping I already have a list of the foods they have agreed to eat.
I ask them to make a list in the following categories:
- Sandwich (or main item)
- Sides (fruits, veggies, ‘dippables’, yogurt)
- Extras (gummy snacks, pretzels, crackers)
- Drinks (Juicy Juice, milk, water)
The list is not the ONLY thing I will pack but it gives me a starting point for packing their healthy lunches. Looking for more ideas? If you are looking for delicious recipes you should check out FlavorfulMoments.net. There you will find mouth watering recipes by Nestles.

Fun Take Aways:
Cookie Cutters. Use fun cookie cutters to cut shapes in the kids sandwiches. Be sure to leave the outside around the cut out part! They need the outside for nutrition too!
Dippables: Include something fun for the kids to dip fruits and vegetables in.
Also include a fresh, seasonal fruit.
I picked up our Juicy Juice at Walmart. Look on the top shelf. Moms know that all the healthy food it up high, so look up!
Refillable bottle. We use the 64 oz. Juicy Juice for school lunches and keep the juice boxes on hand for snacking on the go. Want to know a secret? I also keep the juice boxes hidden for when I forget to wash the refillable bottles. It happens! I don’t tell the kids where my secret stash of juice boxes is hidden. They would drink them all!
