New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate the successes of the previous year, the memories made, the fears overcome and the joys that were celebrated. Often the night is presented with bubbly drinks that are not kid friendly. Why do the adults get to have all the refreshing, bubbly fun? The kids and I were talking about the friends we were going to be visiting for New Year’s Eve. We decided to make a kid friendly drink that their friends could customize and everyone could enjoy as we ushered in the new year.
This super simple recipe has just two ingredients! 7UP® and fruit flavored hard candies. That is it!
I had the kids divide the candies into separate bowls according to flavor. Once they candies were separated according to flavor they unwrapped them. They had to work together to make sure that each color was in the correct bowl. This was our little lesson in cooperation for the day!
Each of my kids decided how many of the candies they wanted in their drink and dropped them in a mason jar.
Little mister decided the wanted to mix up his flavors. Grape and blue raspberry for him in his 7UP®.
Watermelon, cherry and grape for her! I had to cut her off at 6 candies. I do have limits when it comes to adding candies to drinks. New Year’s eve is special but no need to over do the candy!
6Pence did a straight grape add in to her drink.
Once they had decided how many candies they wanted in their drinks we just poured in the 7UP®. If you are patience enough the candies will start to dissolve and color your drink. We are not that patience in our household. The kids drank these right down.
Simple as that!
Each kid is able to customize their own New Year’s drink how ever they like! 7UP® was our beverage of choice but Canada Dry Ginger Ale® would be another option!
