Mommy and Me Vacation in Hershey, Pa
Sometimes you just need a little getaway with your kids! You and the spouse take time together so why not plan a vacation with just Mommy and me? Vacation time means that rules relax and the fun flows. Let the kids see you cut back and have a good time. Hershey Pennsylvania is the sweetest place to take a mommy and me vacation.
Check in to the Hershey Lodge
We stayed at Hershey Lodge, one of the Hershey Entertainment and Resorts official resort hotels. Each room has chocolate themed decor and the double queen room that we stayed in was a very comfortable 305 square feet. It slept the four of us we even had Hershey Kisses at turn down service!
Hershey Lodge also has a king guest room that sleeps two guests as well as a premium two queen guest room that sleep up to 6 featuring two queen beds and a double-size sofa sleeper. I would check on availability of these types of rooms. I am sure they book up fast! There are also suites available if you are in need of more space and amenities but for this trip we were spending most of our time OUT of the hotel room so we were not in need of a lot of space.
Take a room tour with me:
Where else, but in a hotel room, will I allow them to fight with the pillows like they are light sabers?! This is what memories are made of!

Here is a video of the room tour I did at the Hershey Lodge when we stayed for a promotion. Yes, the blog name has changed since this video was filmed… but the info is still the same!
After we check out our room we decided to head over the Chocolate World and see what deliciousness we could expereince there.
Chocolate World has a free ride that tells you all about how delicious Hershey chocolate is made. It was updated for 2017 and they still have the singing cows! If you do nothing else at Hershey Chocolate World you NEED to ride the ride. It is handicap accessible, smooth and comfortable. Plus it is AIR CONDITIONED!!! And there is chocolate at the end.
Chocolate Tasting Expereince
I have been teaching my kids to expand their taste in food, and TRY new things. Consider the flavors in their mouths before swallowing and what they do and do not like about them. The chocolate tasting experience was perfect for what we were trying to instill in our kids!
Take the time, think, learn, taste, enjoy.
We were given 4 different Hershey chocolates to taste, a small sampling of cocoa nibs and a small bottle of water. Plus there was an instructional placemat and an interactive tablet.
It was a large room filled with tables and eager chocolate tasters. We went though each chocolate with the help of a guide who was instructing us what to see, hear (yes you can hear chocolate), smell, taste and savor.
There were projections around the room showcasing the history, growing and chocolate making process. It was very fascinating and educational. I wish we had taken this expereince earlier!
Through the interactive tablet we are able to ‘vote’ on what we are tasting in each piece of chocolate. Much like wine there are different ‘notes’ in chocolate. Each person can taste something different and it was interesting to see what the group was tasting in comparison to what the master Chocolatiers were tasting.
The most interesting part for me came weeks later when my daughter was able to identify a certain flavor in a Chai tea that I had offered her to try. I asked her where she was coming up with that flavor combination and she said it was from the chocolate tasting class she took at Hershey Chocolate World! Thank you Hershey for helping teach my daughter to savor her food!
Up next: Create Your Own Chocolate Bar!
Another expereince at Hershey Chocolate World is the Create Your Own Chocolate Bar expereince. Check out what we did:
Dinner at Fire and Grain
Somehow after all the learning, tasting, riding and shopping at Hershey Chocolate World, we still had room for dinner! We headed back to the Hershey Lodge for our 7:30 reservation at Fire and Grain, the newly renovated restaurant at the Hershey Lodge. This restaurant is family friendly, yet sophisticated enough you would want to go on a date night or entertain clients for dinner.
Here is what we had for dinner:
Bread and butter with flake salt.
I have decided that now I need to serve butter with salt on top. What a fabulous flavor!
A drink for Mommy.
Where There’s Smoke…. Sombra Mezcal, Ketle One vodka, Contreau, basil and lime. I wish I had the recipe for this drink! It was perfect for the summer!
I would also highly recommend any of the signature martini’s. I have enjoyed them on other trips to Hershey and they are all fabulous! Check out the full Fire and Grain spring cocktail menu here.
Homemade Macaroni and Cheese, French Fries and a soda. $7
Fresh fruit and milk were also options.
Small Plate of Baked Macaroni and Cheese with Bacon. $8
My daughter ordered this as part of her ‘I am expanding my palate’ thought process. She is more a blue box mac and cheese kind of girl so the texture of the panko and the pancetta in this dish threw her off a bit. I loved it and would have eaten the whole thing!
Braised Veal & Pork Meatballs $24
Parmesan Polenta, Roasted Asparagus. I got this for my son because I knew he LOVED meatballs. Once again we were trying to expand what he eats and try new things. These meatballs were Ah-Mazing! The polenta with just a touch of the marinara sauce only returns to me in my dreams. It was THAT good! There was a smaller portion available and I wish I would have gotten that for him. This portion was a bit too big for my little guy.
Flat Bread $12
Roasted Tomato & Three Cheese Flat bread.
Mozzarella, Romano & Parmesan, Basil. If you want to show your kids that ‘pizza’ doesn’t have to be round…. flat bread is the way to go!
Prosciutto & Fig Flat bread $14
Balsamic Glaze, Arugula
This was my dinner and it was sooo good! This is one of my current flavor combinations. I had enough left over for a small late night snack!
Sticky Bread $9
Cinnamon Caramel Sauce, Vanilla Ice Cream. Yes! Hershey does serve dessert without chocolate. It is hard to believe, I know. But this was amazingly delicious. We did share it between the four of us because we were so full from the rest of dinner. But who can skip dessert?!
Breakfast at the Cocoa Beanery was just what we needed to start the day. Bagels and pastries for the kids and a latte for me! There were fresh fruit parfaits in the case that we would have gotten but the chocolate croissant won out. We ARE in Hershey, after all.
Hershey Water Works
It was a bit dreary and rainy our second morning so we spent some time in the Hershey Water Works.
This is one of their favorite spots! The ‘wobbly dolphins’ are always a challenge and lots of fun.
Can you walk across Reese’s peanut butter cups with out falling over?
p.s. I can’t….
The Twizzlers Twist is a super fun slide that starts IN the building, goes OUT of the building and ends up back IN the building. There are two slides and my kids like to race to see who can splash down first.
If we were staying any length of time in this pool we would have TOTALLY had a snack. So many options.
But after a few hours the skies cleared up and we headed to Hersheypark. The Hershey Waterworks is open all year long and is an exclusive benefit to all the guests of the Hershey Lodge. What an amazing place to be in the winter!
We are Hersheypark season pass holders and it is the BEST deal if you are going to be going to Hersheypark at least three times a year. I have a post on why my Hersheypark season pass is better than your pool membership. You should check it out.
Plus there is a NEW offer exclusively for season pass holders when it comes to dining.
Here are the details:
We love the rides at Hersheypark but what if you have a little one and they are not wanting to ride of of the 13 coasters? My son helped me write a post on HIS 5 favorite rides for a 5 year old. There are more rides than five that a five year old could ride but he wanted to share his favorites with you.
So what do you think?
