My Secret To Planting The Perfect Tomato
We are HUGE fans of tomatoes in our house. My kids love them so much that they would crawl down to the garden as infants to pick the sweet 100’s. Those messy, drippy, tomato stained faces and shirts were the best! I didn’t care if they were covered from head to toe in tomato seeds. I knew they are eating fresh food straight from the garden. I doesn’t get better than that!
Through the years I have done research and trial and error and found a formula for planting the perfect tomato that works for me. You may raise an eyebrow about my using aspirin in planting the tomatoes. But there is research! Check out this article from ScienceDaily on the subject.
For as long as I have been blogging I have been talking about planting tomatoes this way. Check out the post I did in 2009. Same technique, just the kids and photos are bigger. And then there was the time that Fox43 came to the house to see how I plant tomatoes. You can see that video here.
Once you get your tomatoes in the ground you are going to want to make a heavy duty tomato cage. I have a video tutorial for you in this post. See? I have you covered all around.
But once you have your tomatoes a raving success you are going to want to do something with them. Try my recipe for Roasted Tomato Soup. Also from 2009…boy how my photography has changed!
But once you get your bumper crop of tomatoes and don’t know WHAT ELSE TO DO WITH THEM!!! Pull out my recipe for home made tomato paste. You will thank yourself later.
I think that is enough to get your started. I hope you have as much success with planting the perfect tomato as I have. Don’t forget to pin this to you Pinterest boards!
