I feel for you! You had the best of intentions. You were going to be Pinterest fabulous this Halloween with your DIY costume for your child. But it JUST WAS NOT HAPPENING. It just wasn't. I feel for you!

I had the best on intentions this year when my son told me he wanted to be R2D2 from Star Wars. I had visions of him in a spray painted trashcan with awesome custom make graphics, it was going to have little handles inside the trashcan so he could easily carry it around from house to house as we trick or treated and looks super cute in the Pre-K Halloween parade.

    NOPE.

'No trash can, Mommy', he tells me. Head Desk.

OK. So back to the drawing board for me. I knew he would want to be comfortable, be able to move around and at least LOOK like R2D2. I think we did a pretty good job with this one.

     R2D2 Costume in process

     R2D2 Costume Materials needed:

    • Oversize, white long sleeve white shirt. (I found this one at GoodWill for $3) It is size adult small
    • Blue Duct Tape
    • Silver Duct Tape
    • Black Duct Tape
    • R2D2 Hat (Found at Amazon, Party City)

     R2D2 Costume Optional materials needed:

    • Cutting Mat
    • Exacto knife

    R2D2 Costume Directions

    1. Search on line searching for R2D2 graphics. Find an image that you feel you can be inspired by and so what you can to artistically recreate it. PLUS the cutting mat makes it SUPER easy to make exact cuts to make the graphics for this costume.
    2. Lay out the duct tape on the cutting mat and use the exact-o to slice through and make a nice, clean edge. I am not the best with scissors and I found that if I were to use scissors the duct tape would stick and make a ragged edge. I didn't like the torn look of tearing the duct tape. It just wasn't clean enough for me.
    3. Cut the black duct tape into quarters length wise to make the back details. Don't be afraid to cut the tapes to make the small details on the costume.
    4. Use a sharpie marker to make the ultra fine lines on the graphic on the left.

With this costume he can dress as warmly as possible, move around and STILL look like R2D2.
