Delicious Savory Roasted Chickpeas

What is a chickpea?

Chickpeas, or garbanzo beans as they are sometimes called, can be cooked and eaten cold in salads, cooked in stews, ground into a flour called gram flour (also known as chickpea flour and besan and used frequently in Indian cuisine), ground and shaped in balls and fried as falafel, stirred into a batter and baked to make farina or panel.

Can this recipe be doubled?

This recipe can easily be doubled to make a larger batch for future snacking. Just be sure that when you bake the chickpeas are in an even layer when they are baking.

Are chickpeas inexpensive source of protein?

Chickpeas cost about .65 per 15 oz can and are even cheaper per ounce if you can find them dried and cook them yourself.
