About Sarah Mock

Sarah Mock

One of the hardest things for me to do is to talk about myself. But I want to let you know I am a real person with real experiences, so this is the best way to do that.

  • 17 years of teaching the Savoring The Good audience how to prepare recipes in their home with professional results. Over 5 million pages served.
  • Television Segment Regular - Thrifty Thursday with Sarah Mock on Good Day Pa! (ABC27) was a featured segment every Thursday for 3 years.

Classically Trained Chef

Sarah's lifelong love of food lead her to earn two degrees from Johnson & Wales University. She holds an AA in Pastry Arts and a BS in Food Service Management.

Sarah was trained under the following Chefs

Chef Frances Burnett Ed.D,M.Ed, CMB, CEPC, CHE - After becoming one of the first female Certified Master Bakers in America, a Certified Executive Pastry Chef with the ACF and a Certified Hospitality Educator, Burnett went on to earn a Master's Degree from Columbia College and a Doctorate in Education in Instructional Leadership. Burnett was the Past President and one of the founding executive board members of the Les Dames d'Escoffier, Charlotte Chapter.

Chef Wanda Cropper, CWPC, CCE, Emeritus - Chef Cropper was the influential in Sarah's culinary training by teaching her the elements of classical plated desserts, international desserts and team management. Sarah was Chef Cropper's teaching assistant and fellow during her time at JWU.

My culinary training started as many of ours did, standing on a chair next to our mothers at a tender young age, learning what we could.

My passion for food took off when I took a cake decorating class at age 13, intended for adult students. Thank you Mrs. Jenkins for letting little me into the class and believing I could be in the same room as the adults.

Shortly thereafter, I was competing in 4-H competitions for baked goods, decorated cakes and edible art, winning local and state grand champion rosettes.

A foodie at age 15 Sarah Mock first stepped into a professional kitchen as a prep cook and discovered hard work, a love for the culinary craft and she came alive when creating cuisine for others.

Naturally, this pushed me to want my first job to be in a professional kitchen.

Food Is Life

I believe that everyone should have access to good, quality ingredients so they can cook fresh meals for themselves and their families. So much of our culture is focused on eating and gathering together. Whether that is to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, a special occasion, or just because, food is usually at the center of it all.

My hope is that you find my recipes, recommendations and skills you learn here in my little corner of the internet, worthy of being part of your food experience.

It would be an honor to have you serve one of my appetizers at your next family gathering or share one of my dessert recipes with your neighbor. Or perhaps I can help get that Thanksgiving turkey on the table without anyone crying this year with some of my tutorials and recipes.

Why don't you write a cookbook?

I could write a cookbook but I have chosen not to. Partially for environmental reasons and partially because I have this online platform where I can share recipes for free with everyone, regardless of the ability to pay for a publication.

More fun facts about Sarah:

  • Ran the Olympic Torch Relay in 2002
  • doesn't like broccoli
  • mother to 3 children
  • has 7 chickens
  • married her high school sweetheart
  • wrote a book under a pen name
  • is an ugly crier
