😍 Why I love this recipe

    • Convenience: Having a pre-made spaghetti seasoning mix on hand saves time and effort when preparing pasta dishes. You don't need to measure out individual spices each time you want to make the sauce.
    • Consistency: When using a pre-made blend, you can ensure that you have the same flavor profile every time you make your spaghetti sauce.
    • Versatility: Spaghetti seasoning is not limited to just pasta sauce - it can be used in other Italian-inspired dishes like lasagna, pizza, or meatballs as well!
    • Customization: With homemade spaghetti seasoning, you can customize the spice level and ingredients to your liking. You can also experiment with different herbs and spices until you find your perfect blend.
    • Cost-effective: Making your own blend of spaghetti seasoning can be more cost-effective than buying pre-made mixes at the grocery store.

    🍝 Spaghetti Seasoning Ingredients:

speghetti seasoning ingredients in small glass bows with tet overlay labeling each bowl. italian seasonig, basil, parsley, onion powder, pepper, salt, garlic powder.

Here is a visual overview of the ingredients in the recipe. Scroll down to the recipe at the bottom for quantities.

    • Dried Parsley - adds a fresh, bright flavor to the dish. It also provides a beautiful color to the sauce.
    • Onion Powder -  brings a sweet and savory taste to the sauce without adding any texture. It helps provide depth of flavor to the dish.
    • Garlic Powder - adds an intense garlic flavor without having to mince or chop fresh garlic. It brings warmth and complexity to the dish.
    • Italian Seasoning - a blend of dried herbs such as oregano, thyme, basil, rosemary, and marjoram. This spice mixture enhances the flavor of the pasta sauce with its fragrant notes.
    • Dried Basil - the slightly sweet, aromatic aroma that pairs perfectly with tomatoes. Its mild and pleasant taste complements the other ingredients in the sauce.
    • Salt - enhances all flavors within your dish. It helps bring out flavors in each individual ingredient while tying everything together into one cohesive dish.
    • Black Pepper - adds heat and depth to any recipe. A touch of pepper will balance out all of your ingredients nicely by bringing together both saltiness and sweetness within your dish.

🔄 Substitutions And Additions To Make Spaghetti Seasoning

The recipe I am sharing with you is my basic seasoning blend. The best spaghetti seasoning comes when you add your personal touch to the recipe. Here are some additional spaghetti sauce spices that are sure to give your recipe something special that only you can give.

    • Basil: try using fresh leaves instead of dried, or try crushing them slightly to release more aroma.
    • Black Pepper: any type will do, but use coarse ground black pepper for a better flavor. You can also try using pink or green peppercorns for a unique twist.
    • Herbs: use other herbs like thyme or parsley instead of basil, and red pepper flakes for added heat.
    • Fennel Seeds: Fennel seeds have a sweet, licorice-like flavor that adds depth and complexity to the sauce. They are not a flavor that everyone loves so use sparingly if you know someone is sensitive to this specific flavor profile.
    • Bay Leaves: bring a subtle earthy flavor and aroma to the sauce. Be sure to remove them before serving as they can be tough if eaten. i tell people that if they find the bay leaf in the sauce they are the 'winner'. Winner of what? Finding the bay leaf. Just an example of my quirky sense of humor.
    • Thyme: brings sweet and savory notes with hints of mint and lemon. It will lend a warm, aromatic flavor to your sauce.
    • Rosemary: has a slightly bitter, pine-like flavor that goes well with tomatoes and garlic.
    • Oregano: complements basil nicely as it provides a more robust, pungent flavor.

To ensure the best results when storing and using spaghetti seasoning, follow these tips. First off, make sure to store the seasoning in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. This will help to maintain its flavor and aroma.

When using the seasoning, start with a small amount and gradually adjust to taste. Remember, you can always add more, but you can’t take it away. Also, consider using the seasoning in different ways, such as mixing it into ground beef for spaghetti sauce or sprinkling it over roasted vegetables. By following these tips, you’ll be able to enjoy the full flavor of your spaghetti seasoning.

📝 Frequently asked questions, answers and tips:

What spices to add to spaghetti sauce

Look no further than the perfect combination of herbs and spices! This seasoning blend includes dried parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, dried basil, salt and pepper.  Make sure to shake the seasoning before using to redistribute all ingredients. Remember that the longer you store the blend, the less potent it may become.

What to do when spaghetti sauce is too salty

It has happened to all of us. You got to heavy handed with the salt in your spaghetti sauce. When that happens you have a few options.
Here are some tips that I have learned over the years to lessen the saltiness in tomato sauce.

Add more liquid: This will dilute the sauce and help to reduce the saltiness. You can add water or unsalted broth to the sauce until you reach your desired taste.
Add acid: Adding an acidic ingredient like vinegar or lemon juice to your sauce can help balance out the saltiness by counteracting it with tartness.
Add sweetness: Adding a sweet ingredient like sugar or honey can also help balance out the saltiness in your sauce.
Add more pasta: If you’ve made too much sauce and it’s too salty, adding more pasta will increase the overall volume of food and dilute the saltiness that way.
Make another batch without salt and mix them together: If all else fails, you can make another batch of spaghetti sauce without adding any salt and mix it with the original batch.

Remember, when adjusting seasoning in a recipe, always do so gradually, tasting as you go until the desired flavor is reached.

    👩‍🍳 Chef Tip

Make sure to shake the seasoning before using to redistribute all ingredients. Remember that the longer you store the blend, the less potent it may become.
