It is refreshing on a hot day and cools your palate after a spicy meal. This recipe is a blend of different recipes. Feel free to adjust the spices to make it your own!

Thai Iced Tea Recipe Ingredients

Thai Iced Tea Recipe. Easy, Homemade, Refreshing
  • 6 cups water
  • 8 black tea bags
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 vanilla bean (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom (optional)
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk (Or dairy or dairy alternative of your choosing)

  1. Bring 6 cups of water to a rolling boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. Once boiling, turn off the heat and add the black tea bags, star anise, vanilla bean, cinnamon sticks, ground cloves, and cardamom (if using).
  3. Steep the tea and spices for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer lined with a coffee filter to remove all spices and tea leaves.
  5. Let the tea concentrate cool completely, then transfer it to a jar or bottle and refrigerate for up to a week.

Make the Thai tea concentrate:

  1. Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. Turn off the heat and add tea bags, star anise, vanilla bean, cinnamon sticks, ground cloves, and cardamom.
  3. Steep for 15 minutes, then strain through a coffee filter-lined mesh strainer.
  4. Cool completely and refrigerate for up to a week.

Assemble the Thai iced tea:

  1. Fill a glass ¾ full with the chilled Thai tea concentrate.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk (or your preferred dairy or dairy-free alternative).
  3. Stir gently to combine, or layer the milk for a visually appealing effect.
  4. Add ice cubes or crushed ice, and enjoy immediately!

  5. Cool the tea completely and store the tea concentrate in the refrigerator for up to a week.

How to make Thai iced tea:

  1. Pour your Thai Ice Tea base to fill the glass until it is ¾ full. (or is it ¼ empty? )
  2. Top the tea with 2 large tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk. I like to watch it sink to the bottom of the glass and see the lovely trails of milky deliciousness as it falls.
  3. Stir to combine and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you would like the have your tea sweeter, add another spoonful of sweetened condensed milk.
  • Other options for adding milk to your tea would be heavy cream, whole milk, coconut milk or almond milk. You may have to adjust your sweetness if you opt for one of these ingredients.
  • It is best to let the tea cool completely before mixing the tea with the sweetened condensed milk. But if you are like me, and want your delicious drink NOW fill a glass half full with crushed ice.
