I have made this dip for over 50 years, usually with one addition to “put the topping on the cake” so to say! Once the dip is in the pan, I sauté 1 cup of pecans in 1 tsp. butter until they are bubbling. Then I spread those evenly over the top of the dip & bake it just as in this recipe. I don’t think this recipe ever goes out of style, & there’s never any left for me to have on a toasted breakfast bagel the next morning!

Thank you PJ! I love the idea of having any leftovers on a toasted breakfast bagel. I am adding that to my list of ways to use leftovers!

Do you need to rinse the dried beef?

    • Sarah Mock says

Nope! Don't wash off all of that salty flavor!

    What size serving dish?

Hi! Can you make chip beef dip ahead and freeze it uncooked? Then thaw and bake when needed?
    Thanks!

    • Sarah Mock says

      Hi Kim,

I have never made it ahead, frozen and cooked it. You are welcome to give it a try. My caution would be that, after freezing it, the texture may not be the same. Cream cheese changes texture after freezing. That being said, I am not sure if the sour cream would help keep it stable. I don't have time to test it but this is my caution and advise.

Can this be served at room temp or cold?

    • Sarah Mock says

I have never tried to serve it room temp or cold from the beginning. BUT I will eat it room temperature after it has been heated once. Kind of like a leftover. Let me know what you end up doing. I would love to hear.

We used to make this years ago in the crock pot but with minced dried onion. Served with Bagel chips (which I can never find any longer) it was always a big hit!

Thank you for the recipe! I remember my mom making it but she has passed and we couldn't find her recipe. This is as close as I have found.

I am glad I could be helpful Frank.

I made this for a dinner party I was hosting and everyone loved it! Paired perfectly with some tortilla chips I bought from Trader Joe's!

If you are a fan of Trader Joe's you are going to want to try my recipe for Trader Joes Everything but the bagel seasoning.
