Easy New Year's Eve appetizers are the creamy dips, crunchy snack mixes, and warm bites that carry your party from the first guest to the ball drop. These are the recipes I lean on for a long night; most of them can be made a day ahead, so you are not stuck in the kitchen at 11:55.

A New Year's Eve party runs longer than most, and the food has to last with it. When appetizers are the whole meal for 10 to 30 guests, plan on 8 to 12 pieces per person with 2 hot and 3 cold options; my guide to how many appetizers per person breaks it down by party size.
Here is the plan I use for New Year's Eve party food
Two or three cold dips made the night before, one or two hot dips holding in slow cookers, a big bowl of snack mix that is safe to sit out all night, and something festive for midnight.
Cold New Year's Eve Appetizers You Can Make Ahead
Cold dips are the backbone of a New Year's Eve spread because they get better overnight; the flavors have time to marry in the fridge. Make these the day before and your party day is mostly arranging bowls.

Hot Dips for Your New Year's Eve Party
Hot dips are the first thing gone at every party I host. Some bake in the oven and some cook in the slow cooker; the baked dips can be assembled the day before, and the slow cooker dips hold on the warm setting once they are hot.
Hot Finger Foods for a New Year's Eve Party
Warm bites turn a snack table into a real meal, which matters when your guests are staying until midnight. Pick one slow cooker recipe that holds itself and one or two you can bake or air fry in batches through the night.
New Year's Eve Snacks That Last All Night
Snack mixes are the quiet heroes of a long party: they bake up crisp and store at room temperature, so unlike the dips they can stay on the table all night. Make them ahead, keep them airtight, and refill the bowl as it empties.

New Year's Day Food: Pork and Sauerkraut
In my Pennsylvania Dutch family, the party is not over until you eat pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day. It is the first dinner of the year, and it is supposed to bring good luck.

How to Keep Party Food Safe Until Midnight
A New Year's Eve party can run five or six hours, and that is far longer than perishable food should sit out. The USDA rule for home cooks is 2 hours at room temperature; after that, toss it.
- Keep hot food hot. Hold hot dips and meatballs in a slow cooker on warm, at 140F or higher. Check with an instant-read thermometer once in a while.
- Reheat first, then hold. A slow cooker heats too slowly to safely reheat cold food. Bring dips to 165F in the oven or microwave, then move them to the slow cooker to stay warm.
- Keep cold food cold. Set cold dips and shrimp in a bowl nestled into a larger bowl of ice, at 40F or below.
- Serve small, swap often. Put out small bowls and swap in a fresh one from the fridge instead of topping off the old one. Wash or replace the serving bowl each time.
- Lean on snack mixes. Baked crackers and party mixes are dry and shelf-stable, so they can stay out all night.
New Year's Eve Appetizer FAQ
While I try to share all the information you need to make this recipe in your home with restaurant-quality results, there still may be a question or two. Or these are questions I have received from the community about this recipe. I do my best to answer them as clearly as I can. I hope this helps.
How many appetizers do I need for a New Year's Eve party?
For 10 to 30 guests with appetizers as the whole meal, plan on 8 to 12 pieces per person and aim for 2 hot and 3 cold options. For a cocktail-style party, figure 6 to 8 pieces per person per hour. My appetizers per person guide has the full chart.
How far ahead can I make New Year's Eve appetizers?
Snack mixes can be made days ahead; ranch oyster crackers keep up to 5 days. Most cold dips are best made the night before. Baked dips like chipped beef dip and pizza dip can be assembled up to 24 hours ahead and baked right before the party.
How long can dips sit out at a party?
No more than 2 hours at room temperature. Keep hot dips at 140F or higher in a slow cooker and cold dips over ice, and swap in fresh bowls from the fridge instead of refilling.
