How to make Easter Dirt Dessert Cups

These playful dirt cups combine instant pudding, Oreo crumbs, and festive Peeps for a make-ahead dessert that's guaranteed to delight kids and adults alike.

Two mixing bowls with whisks. Left bowl contains a yellow mixture, right bowl has a thick white mixture. Both are on a marble surface.

 Prepare the Pudding Mixture

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until thickened (~2 minutes).
  2. Gently fold in the Cool Whip until fully combined. Set aside.

Crush the Oreos

Use a food processor (or a ziplock bag + rolling pin) to crush the Oreos into fine crumbs. Divide into 3 equal portions (one for each layer).

Layer the Dirt Cups

Bottom Layer:

  • Divide 1 portion of Oreo crumbs evenly among the cups. Press lightly to pack.

Purple Pudding Layer:

  • Take ⅓ of the pudding mixture and stir in 4-5 drops purple gel food coloring (adjust for desired shade).
  • Spoon the purple pudding over the Oreo layer, filling cups ~⅓ full.

Middle Oreo Layer:

  • Add a second portion of Oreo crumbs over the purple pudding.

Pink Pudding Layer:

  • Mix the remaining pudding with 4-5 drops pink gel food coloring.
  • Spoon into cups, leaving a little space at the top.

Final Oreo Layer:

Top with the last portion of Oreo crumbs.

Make-Ahead Guide for Easter Dirt Cups

Option 1: Fully Assemble 1 Day Ahead

  • Complete all layers (Oreo + pudding) and refrigerate covered.
    • Oreos soften (still tasty, less "dirty" texture).
    • Wait to decorate - Add Peeps/sprinkles within 1 hour of serving to avoid:
      • Sprinkles bleeding color
      • Peeps getting sticky from fridge moisture

Option 2: Prep Components 2 Days Ahead

  • Crush Oreos - Store airtight at room temp.
  • Mix pudding base - Keep undyed, covered in fridge.
  • Keep Cool Whip separate - Chill unopened.
  • TIPS:
    • Pudding thickens - Stir in 1 tablespoon milk per cup if too stiff.
    • Fold in Cool Whip ONLY when assembling - Prevents deflating.
