Storing Chocolate Lasagna Tips

Storing in the Refrigerator:

  • Cover tightly with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container.
  • Store in refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.
  • Keep away from strong-smelling foods as it can absorb odors.

Storage Note

The Oreo crust may soften over time in the refrigerator - this is normal and doesn't affect the taste.

Freezer Storage (if needed):

  • Can be frozen for up to 2-3 months.
  • Wrap tightly in plastic wrap, then add a layer of aluminum foil.
  • Label with date.
  • Thaw overnight in refrigerator before serving.

Tips for Best Results:

  • Keep well-covered to prevent the dessert from drying out or absorbing refrigerator smells
  • The texture of the Cool Whip topping may change slightly after freezing and thawing
  • Cut into portion sizes before freezing for easier serving later
  • Avoid storing at room temperature as dairy ingredients will spoil

Can this chocolate dessert be made ahead and frozen?

Freezing Instructions:

  1. Prepare recipe as directed
  2. Cover tightly with plastic wrap, then add a layer of foil
  3. Freeze for up to 2-3 months
  4. Thaw in refrigerator for 24 hours before serving

Tip for Best Quality When Freezing:

  • Ensure all layers are completely set before freezing
  • Use a freezer-safe dish (glass or ceramic work well)
  • Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the top layer to prevent ice crystals
  • Keep level while freezing to maintain even layers
  • Label with date and contents

Fresh vs. Frozen

While freezing works, the optimal texture and presentation will always be from the fresh, refrigerated version served after its initial 4-hour setting time.

Differences To Keep In Mind When Making Frozen vs. Fresh:

  • Texture Changes:
    • Cool Whip layers may become slightly less fluffy
    • Crust might be more firm initially after thawing
    • Pudding layer could be slightly less creamy
  • Taste Differences:
    • Overall flavor remains similar
    • May taste slightly less fresh
    • Could absorb freezer flavors if not wrapped well
  • Serving Considerations:
    • Allow to soften slightly at room temperature (15-20 minutes) after thawing for best texture
    • Cut with a warm knife for cleaner slices
    • May be harder to get the first piece out cleanly
