4 Super Simple Sweet and Savory Compound Butter Recipes
In culinary school we were taught 'butter is better' and I couldn't agree more! Except when it comes to compound flavored butters. I always have compound butters on my Thanksgiving table. They pair very well with my Thanksgiving feast of my juicy roasted turkey, (made with my favorite turkey brine recipe) cranberry sauce.
Be sure to follow my instructions on how to cook asparagus. It is so easy!

How to make cilantro Lime Butter:
- Soften the butter and add the cilantro, lime zest and salt. I just used a mini food processor to combine the ingredients but a mixer with a paddle or even a spoon and bowl to mix your ingredients together.
- The butter is ready to go but if you would like to portion it off, I do a butter roll.
How to make a butter log:
- Use a piece of parchment paper, wax paper will work in a pinch.
- Plop, that is a technical culinary term, the compound butter on the parchment paper.
- Fold over the parchment and slide your hand to spread the butter out. It naturally forms a tube. Pretty awesome!
- Pop it into the refrigerator, allow it to chill completely and slice.
This butter is so good on steak, pork or melted on a savory biscuit.
Roasted Garlic Compound Butter
- 1 stick (½ cup) Real California Butter
- 1 Tablespoons flat leaf parsley, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of roasted garlic (See my recipe for roasted garlic)
Follow the same procedure as above.
Soften the butter, mix the butter, parsley and roasted garlic together in a food processor, mixer or by hand.
Use a piece of parchment paper and create the butter log.
Chill until firm.
Slice and serve.
My favorite way to enjoy this compound butter is as a snack served on a slice of baguette.
Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Compound Butter
- 1 stick (½ cup) Real California Butter
- 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar

Make sure the butter is soft and blend all the ingredients together.
This butter is wonderful on scones, pancakes, waffles and biscuits.
How delicious would this be to give as a hostess gift at the next ladies tea?
Cranberry, Walnut, Orange Butter Compound Butter
- 1 stick (½ cup) Real California Butter
- 1 tablespoon dried cranberries, chopped
- 1 tablespoon walnuts, chopped
- zest of 1 orange
This might be my favorite compound butter. The sweetness of the cranberries, orange zest with the crunch of the walnuts is the perfect compliment to the California butter.
My favorite way to enjoy this butter is on a croissant.
