    Turkey Shepherd's Pie Recipe With Ground Turkey

    This turkey shepherd's pie recipe can be made with ground turkey and is extra delicious when made with leftover Thanksgiving turkey.

    Ingredients needed:

    • Potatoes- russet, peeled cubed
    • sour cream - low fat is fine but I prefer full-fat sour cream
    • butter - unsalted
    • salt
    • olive oil
    • carrots - peeled and diced
    • celery - washed and diced
    • onion- fine diced
    • corn- frozen corn, thawed. Learn how to freeze corn
    • garlic- minced or use garlic confit
    • ground turkey -
    • tomato paste - here is how to make tomato paste with leftover tomatoes from your garden
    • rosemary - dried
    • thyme - dried
    • black pepper
    • flour - all-purpose. Learn about the different baking terms and why the type of flour matters.
    • chicken broth - use low sodium chicken broth in a box or make your own chicken stock.

    How to make Shepherd's Pie with Turkey

    1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a 7x11 casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
    2. Put potatoes in a pot and cover with water. Bring to boil until the potatoes are tender. Drain and return to the pot. Add in sour cream, butter, and ½ teaspoon of salt; mash until smooth. Set aside. vegetables for turkey shepherd's Pie
    3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Saute carrots, celery, and onion until softened. Stir in corn and garlic and cook for 1 minute. Transfer to a bowl and set aside. ground turkey and spiced for turkey shepherd's Pie in a pan.

    Absolutely! I would add 2 cups of cooked, chopped turkey to the recipe. Warm the chopped turkey with the spices in place of cooking the raw ground turkey.

    Can this casserole be prepped ahead?

    You can prep this casserole up to 2 days in advance. Cover it and refrigerate it unbaked. Just add a couple more minutes to the baking time so it is heated through.

    • 2 Russet Potatoes (large, peeled, cubed)
    • ⅓ cup sour cream
    • 1 tablespoon butter (unsalted)
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 teaspoons olive oil (extra virgin)
    • 3 carrots (diced)
    • 2 celery (diced)
    • 1 onion (small, small diced)
    • 1 cup corn (frozen, thawed)
    • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
    • 1 pound ground turkey breast
    • 1 ½ tablespoons tomato paste
    • 1 teaspoon rosemary (dried)
    • 1 teaspoon thyme (dried)
    • ½ teaspoon black pepper
    • 2 tablespoons flour
    • 1 ¼ cups chicken broth (low sodium)

    Instructions
