📝 Frequently asked questions, answers and tips:
There are 3 main components that make up a casserole. A starch, a binding agent OR sauce, AND a protein OR vegetable. Casseroles can have all 5 components but 3 are basic to make up a casserole. I will even venture to say that there a bonus element...the crunch factor. A cracker topping, cheesy crust or something that will give the perfect bite of casserole a bit of texture.
A casserole could be a cooking vessel or a casserole could be defined as the ingredients. In this case, I am referring to a casserole as it relates to ingredients. A casserole can include meat, vegetables, beans, rice or anything else that when combined would be delicious. For added texture and flavor, often a casserole is topped with cheese or bread crumbs. The possibilities are endless!
When making a casserole, the vessel you bake it in needs to be oven safe. The cooking vessel can be glass, metal, ceramic or anything that is safe for the oven. Look for a container that comes with a tight-fitting lid as some casseroles need to be covered. Also handles on the casserole dish can be helpful for removing the dish from the oven.
Casseroles are great for using up leftover chicken but depending on the recipe, canned chicken, rotisserie chicken, fresh-cut chicken, ground chicken, chicken breast or other cuts of chicken can be used. Be sure to check the recipe for what type of chicken should be used.

This was SO delicious!! I followed your exact recipe and I don't think it was too thick at all. It was nice and creamy and the flavors were great! My husband ate two bowlfuls and wanted more. We had plenty for leftovers. Thanks--this is a keeper!

My grandmother 'took care of business' the same way! I watched many times from the beginning to the end. Sometimes I felt sorry for those birds but they sure tasted good with dressing and gravy! I prefer boneless and white meat. Thanks for sharing. Your fried chicken sounds wonderful.

I made this the other day and it was wonderful! My family loved it! Since then, my husband has learned he is allergic to tomatoes. I wondered if you might have any suggestions for a good substitute? I’m thinking of maybe adding some beef or veggie broth for the liquid, and maybe some black beans for substance? Just wondering if I should add some extra seasonings too, and/or if there are some other things you might recommend. Thank you!?
