- Silver tequila - a budget-friendly mixing tequila, clear, bottled directly after being distilled in stainless steel containers.
- Cointreau - If you’re only going to keep one orange liqueur on your bar cart, cointreau is it.
- Blood orange juice - blood oranges have a ruby red colored juice are very sweet with notes of cherry and raspberries. A delicious addition to your margarita.
- Lime juice - fresh is best and will give you the best fresh lime flavor.
- Flakey sea salt - optional but flaky salt will give you a beautiful salted rim on the glass.

- Cointreau can be on the pricier end of the orange liqueur price range. Triple sec, Grand Marnier, Combier Liqueur d'Orange and Patron Citronge Orange Liqueur are all great substitions for cointreau.

🔪 How to make a Blood Orange Margarita, basic instructions
- Start by juicing the blood oranges and the limes.
- Run a slice of blood orange around the rim of a glass and dip the edge of the glass into flaky salt for a salt rim. (optional)
- Fill a cocktail shaker ½ way with ice. Add ingredients to the cocktail shaker. Secure the lid and shake.
- Strain the coctail into an ice filled glass.

- Place flakey salt on a small plate forming an even layer just slightly larger than the rim of the glass.
- Run a slice of blood orange around the rim of the glass to moisten it. Press the glass in the salt to coat the rim.
- Fill a cocktail shaker ½ full with ice. Add tequila, orange liqueur, blood orange and lime juice to the shaker.
- Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
- Fill the salt rimmed glass with ice and strain the shaken blood orange margarita over top.
- If desired, garnish with a slice of blood orange.

When you are serving margaritas to a crowd it is more time-efficient to make a pitcher of margaritas. Hand-shaking each cocktail will take time away for you to spend time with your guests. I suggest you mix up all the ingredients, leaving the ice out until it is time to serve. The ice will dilute the cocktail if added too soon.
- 1 ½ cups silver tequila
- 2 cups blood orange juice, fresh squeezed is best.
- ¾ cup Cointreau
- ¾ cup lime juice
- 3 large handfuls ice

Make a batch of margarita ahead of your party, leaving the ice out and store in the closed pitcher until ready to serve. Add ice, stir and serve in ice-filled glasses.

- 1.5 oz silver tequila (3 tablespoons or 45 ml)
- ¾ oz orange liqueur (1 ½ tablespoons or 22.5 ml)
- 2 oz fresh squeezed blood orange juice (4 tablespoons or 60 ml)
- 1 oz fresh squeezed lime juice (2 tablespoons or 30 ml)
- Flakey sea salt (for glass rim)
Instructions
